President Obama will call for ending tax breaks for oil companies in his weekly address today, and the Senate is expected to vote on doing so next week. Pennsylvania 's U.S. Sen. Bob Casey released a report Friday concluding that if the federal government ended oil company subsidies it would save taxpayers $21 billion over 10 years without raising gasoline prices. The oil industry says gas prices would climb. Congress is unlikely to repeal the subsidies.
