The government is working on cleaning up the first three to four miles of the Kalamazoo River, which was also affected by the spill near Marshall, Michigan, Mark Durno, a spokesman for the EPA, said during a conference call today. Enbridge may start to lower and align a new section of pipe into place by tonight to replace the 15-foot segment that started leaking July 26, Enbridge Chief Executive Patrick Daniel said on the call. He declined to estimate when repairs to the line, which can carry as much as 190,000 barrels of oil to Sarnia, Ontario, from Griffith, Indiana, daily, will be completed.
