BP.N ) is working to increase its capacity to handle oil collected from its blown-out Gulf of Mexico well until August, when a pair of relief wells are drilled down far enough to plug it.

The current collection system can accommodate 18,000 barrels a day, and will be increased to 38,000 barrels a day later this month. The system collected 15,400 barrels of oil on June 10, 400 barrels less than the amount collected in the previous 24-hour period. By mid-July, BP will replace that system with one that has capacity of up to 50,000 barrels a day and can better withstand hurricanes in the storm-prone Gulf.
