President Obama used his weekly address to the nation on Saturday to promote the administration's energy security strategy and its goal of reducing the country's dependence on foreign oil.

This week, the White House announced a new goal of cutting foreign oil imports by one-third in just a little over ten years. In a speech at Georgetown University on Wednesday, Obama laid out a comprehensive national energy policy for reaching this goal, which includes increasing U.S. oil production, investing in natural gas and renewable biofuels and increasing transportation efficiency. Drastically cutting oil imports will benefit the country in a number ways, including making the economy less volatile and vulnerable to fluctuations in oil prices, decreasing the damage to the environment and creating new products and businesses across the nation, Obama said.
