NEW ORLEANS — As the threat of a serious storm vanished, ships, equipment and workers returned to position Sunday to continue the task of permanently capping the rogue Gulf well and cleaning up spilled oil.

Tropical Storm Bonnie dissolved into a loose cadre of mild thunderstorms by the time it galloped across the Gulf and reached Louisiana 's coast late Saturday, disbanding fears that the storm would seriously disrupt recovery efforts. But the storm did leave a mark: It delayed recovery work by at least a week, said retired Coast Guard admiral Thad Allen, the federal overseer of the recovery effort.
